On behalf of the City of Stamping Ground, I would like to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed time, talents, work, and resources to make the first annual “Stamping Out Hunger” a great success.
Being mayor, and seeing the need for an outreach of this type, I was delighted when I was made aware last year that one of our Police Officers, Doug Sutton, and his wife JoAnn had given out several food baskets to some of Stamping Ground’s elderly at Christmas.
This year, Chief Helms and the Fire Department desired to help in order to accomplish even more. Roger, Keith, and Curtis Barkley, the Barkley Family, Epp Mevin Walls (and others) also decided to use their talents and give a free concert to seek donations for Stamping Ground’s most vulnerable seniors. All of these folks are valued partners.
Some of the folks that we wanted to help were economically disenfranchised, but others had perhaps, recently lost a spouse and were living alone. A few others had simply endured a very difficult year health-wise.
Your donations made a crucial difference for many folks at Christmas time this year! Every cent that was received went directly into purchasing items for the baskets.
We were able to assemble and deliver 50 baskets! Each basket had ham, sausage, vegetables, soups, snacks, candy, and a warm blanket.
There were a few tears of gratitude from some of the recipients and the entire project has been a joy that words can’t really describe but that was felt immediately in the heart.
All of this could not have been possible without the support that
“Stamping Out Hunger” received from the Stamping Ground community, businesses, friends and family that believed in this cause.
Thank you again for your contributions and support, we hope you will continue to stand by our side as we plan a 2nd annual “Stamping Out Hunger” next year!
May the Lord richly bless you and your loved ones in 2016!
Mayor Kayla Jones
