Scott County temperatures are going to remain below freezing for the next several days.

The Scott County Senior Center at 800 Cincinnati Road will be utilized as a warming station during daytime hours of 8:00 am till 6:00pm.

Scott County Emergency Management Assistant Director, Mike Hennigan has said that folks needing nighttime shelter can call 502-863-7820 and a temporary shelter can be arranged on a case by case basis.

Did you know that frostbite can occur to exposed skin in 10-12 minutes?

These cold temperatures can also be dangerous for people with heart disease. Breathing cold air stimulates reflexes in the body that can provoke angina. Chest discomfort can be an early symptom of a heart attack. Those with heart disease should use protective clothing such as a mask or scarf when performing activities in temperatures less than 40 degrees.

Your pets need protection too. If it’s 20 degrees or less, pets should be brought inside. If this is not possible they need extra bedding in their shelters and they should be shielded from the wind. Please check their food and water often because it freezes solid quickly.
